Large-scale form used extensively in the late-eighteenth and nineteenth century (think Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert). Consists of an exposition, which introduces the musical material; a development, a harmonically unstable area that plays around with earlier musical material; and a recapitulation, which reintroduces the initial musical material.
